The tours provided valuable educational and research opportunities that exposed students to various aspects of their industries. The industry tours offer a unique opportunity for our WMHS students to connect classroom learning with real-world applications. It will inspire students to explore potential career paths and foster a deeper appreciation for the industries in our region.Thank you to our community partners for opening their doors to the WMHS students and staff! Clubs Corner
Atina Club
Raymond Huesties, Aiden Wolf, and Jeremy Wolf all educated Atina Club members on the importance of drums within Native American culture. Students learned the value of respecting every part of an animal and to treat all parts of nature with the utmost care. Additionally, students were taught to cherish and learn from their elders and to pass down all that they learn to future generations. All students took a turn lacing the front and back of the drum together with rawhide, and all students signed their names of the inside of the drum.
We look forward to having another field trip to construct drum sticks as well as hand drums when funding allows.
Communicare
The club formalized their mission statement for this school year:
We, the members of Weston McEwen CommuniCare, will prioritize funding applications to nonprofit organizations within the boundaries of the greater Athena Weston School District that offer food security, clothing, and other necessities. Due to the many economic downturns, general prices have increased 18% in the last 3 years, however wages have not grown to match these rising costs. A simple way to put it is that our priority is people. Our goal as a community, not only as a club, is to unite our community through optimism. We will consider applications from community non-profit organizations that provide other services not listed, depending upon the quality of applications in the priority funding area. Growing up in a small community has shown us that being helpful is a crucial step to a community because it inspires others to take similar hopeful actions and helps us all aspire to be great.
National Honor Society
The group met on November 1 to nominate club officers. Students are identifying their individual student projects, so make sure to get yours submitted to Mr. Olson or Ms. Baumann.
